July 16, 2009 At 1:30 PM EDT

MANASQUAN, NJ --  July 7, 2009: "Will Your Organization Be In Compliance With the Identity Theft FTC Red Flags Rule?" an audio webcast covering the August 1 FTC enforcement of the Red Flags Rule, has been scheduled Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 1:30 pm.

Identity Theft is on the rise. Medical Identity theft is the fastest growing type of identity theft.

Section 114 of “FACTA” the Fair & Accurate Credit Transactions Act, required six regulatory agencies to create rules requiring organizations that deal with consumer information to monitor for identity fraud.

Does your organization have an identity theft prevention program designed to detect, prevent and mitigate identity theft?

Many healthcare organizations may not have been unaware of these regulations, one expert said.

How much does your staff understand about protecting and verifying information?

How much do you know about identity theft?

Only 17.5 percent of hospitals were currently in compliance when the original May 1 enforcement deadline was near, a recent national survey found.

The new federal regulation is administered by the Federal Trade Commission, (FTC).

"The red flags rule is intended to address all forms of identity theft, including those involving the provision of health care," according to an FTC document.

"Although identity theft most commonly is associated with financial transactions, there are increasing concerns about identity fraud in the context of medical care," the agency said.

That’s why you and the key members of your organization should plan to participate in " Will Your Organization Be In Compliance With the Identity Theft FTC Red Flags Rule?" a new audio webcast, Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 1:30 pm.

Lisa Asbell, an acclaimed expert in the Red Flags Rule, will be the presenter.

Get the facts on identity theft and the Federal laws that apply to hospitals, hospices, home health, medical practices, laboratories, imaging centers and other healthcare entities in the United States.
