MANASQUAN, NJ -- The Final HIPAA Security Rule has been released with a 2005 effective date — which has many healthcare organizations thinking that they don't need to worry about it yet.
Not so — even with its 2005 deadline, the first impact of the new Security Rule will be felt almost immediately, according to experts.
The 2005 effective date tells only part of the story. The "mini-security rule" in the HIPAA Privacy Rule (45 CFR 164.530(c)) goes into effect in less than two months according to the Seattle, Wash.-based law firm Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT).
For this reason, HIPAA Bulletin for Management is sponsoring "Final HIPAA Security Rule: The Next Steps For Your Organization," a special audio conference, on Thursday, April 10, at 1:30 p.m. EST.
Expert speakers Richard Marks, partner at the Washington D.C. office of Davis Wright Tremaine and John Parmigiani, director of HIPAA compliance services for CTG HealthCare Solutions, will provide conference participants with information on:
- A step-by-step analysis of the Security Rule;
- How the Security Rule goes hand-in-hand with the Privacy Rule;
- What factors you must consider in technology and the culture of the employees;
- What management must do to implement the provisions of the security rules across their organizations; and
- The key differences between the privacy and security rules.
Who should participate: CEOs, COOs, CIOs, privacy officers, vice presidents, HIPAA compliance officers, operations executives, HIPAA task force members, executives and marketers, knowledge managers and strategic and implementation consultants, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, managed care organizations, hospices, home health agencies, nursing homes, clearinghouses, physician practice management company executives, medical device manufacturers and healthcare technology companies.
